The Performance
Last year PaintJam performed in San Diego at a National Sales Meeting for Dynavax Technologies. Dynavax is a biopharmaceutical company that develops and commercializes vaccines for infectious diseases. The theme for the event was re-imagine, the idea being to inspire the sales team to think differently than they have in the past. Dynavax VP of Sales and Operations reached out to PaintJam with enthusiasm of how well the show fit the concept for her meeting. Paintjam loves helping companies inspire their employees by creating a dynamic and memorable signature to any corporate event. The artists create an experience where things are not what they originally appear to be.
Harvey Dunn opened the show with a portrait of Albert Einstein. It’s never obvious at the beginning of the show what’s about to end up on the canvas. This is what keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. As the likeness was masterfully painted, Harvey kept the audience guessing to what the finished masterpiece would look like. A decoy face in the area where Einstein’s forehead would go, in order to hide the true image for as long as possible – and build a palpable anticipation.
“Harvey’s show was perfect for our team!”
Meg Smith, Vice President, Sales and Operations
Harvey explained, “Adding a second image within the artwork is a fun game dad and I play because it throws the audience off our trail. By painting a silly face at the very beginning, I can paint the rest of the subject without it being obvious as to who it is. All the audience can see is this crazy Yeti face which makes the finished piece hide better and we get to mess with the audience a bit.”
